ll Farmers Association of Nigeria AFAN has appealed to the Federal Government to revive Bank of Agriculture that gave farmers soft loan in order to enhance food production in the country.
The National Publicity Secretary of AFAN Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji made the call while interacting with news men in Gombe. He said Nigerian farmers has a lot of confidence on the Bank and in the past the bank helped a lot in boosting Agricultural activities in the country through the provision of soft loan to farmers.
Magaji, Who is the Head of Gombe State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture said" when the bank was functioning in Gombe State alone over 600 million was distributed to farmers . They used the money as expected and majority of them paid back the loan satisfactorily".
He said existing loan schemes for farmers were difficult to access because grass root farmers find it difficult to meet the requirement of accessing the loan.
Magaji urged the Government to make the best use of Nigerian seed council in order to have good quality of seeds that will help farmers to have bumper harvest.
